The central star of our planetary system that we call the Sun, or Sol (from Latin), is one of the seven classical planets which is associated with vitality, victory, and protection. It is tied to the Divine Masculine, that is, the portion of Aether (per my definition) which is masculine in its properties and tendencies. In alchemy, it is associated with the Red Tincture, or the Philosopher's Stone, the metal gold, and the heart. In astrology, it can reveal information about the dominant parts of us, the "Inner Adult" aspects of our incarnation, our basic identity, and the preoccupations of our conscious mind. Unlike the exciting warmth of the Fire of Mars, the Fire of Sol carries a relaxing warmth. Sun magick is best used for balance and centering, permeating prosperity, protection by promotion of peace, and improving quality of life.

The ideal conditions for utilizing Sol energy are on a Sunday at the morning Hour of Sol during a clear, sunny day when Sol is in Leo. Sol energy is also dominant in plants that resemble the sun, bloom during the day, are warm and relaxing, aid masculine health, or work on the heart.

The Air of Mercury carries energies which deal with connection, communication, and being present in two or more places at once, while the Earth of Mercury carries energies which deal with the inner rational mind, bringing things under the radar, and the beginning of personal quests. Mercury magick is best used for the obtaining and sharing of any sort of information, connecting two or more energies or being in-between places, shaping our outward persona in order to influence others, and ensuring the forward momentum of energies in their present state for better or for worse.

When in retrograde, the influence of Mercury can cause a strain on communication, technology, and travel. During this period, it is important to take your time in expressing as well as understanding the thoughts of others and to take extra precautions when working with technology or traveling between places. This time is best spent reviewing plans and projects rather than starting anything new, as the timing of taking on such projects may result in a slow start and delayed momentum going forward. Keeping the banishment sigil on hand during this time may be helpful, but bear in mind that life seems to have a natural ebb and flow that is always seeking to balance itself.

The ideal conditions for utilizing Mercury energy are on a Wednesday morning or Saturday night at the Hour of Mercury during a windy day when Mercury is in Gemini. Mercury energy is dominant in plants that are fine and feathery, have a fresh or fleeting fragrance, are stimulating or work on the nervous system, or work on the lungs.

The Earth of Venus carries energies which deal with the romanticization of life, the obtaining of financial stability through creative endeavors, and the rejuvenation of youth, while the Air of Venus carries energies which deal with love and passion between people, the ability to lure and influence through charm, and obtaining balance and harmony. Venus magick is best used for forming and improving romantic and platonic relationships, discovering your Spark and noticing the beauty in life, turning your creative talents into a successful career, generating an income outside of that which is reserved for necessary expenses, and promoting good health by maintaining a youthful state of mind, body, and spirit.

When in retrograde, the influence of Venus can cause a strain on relationships, particularly those of a romantic nature, as well as a strain on available excess spending money ("fun money"). During this period, it is important to be open and communicative about emotional needs and desires in all relationships and to be mindful about spending habits. This time is best spent saving your money and reflecting on your relationships without necessarily taking action, as it can indeed be a time which brings to light any relationships worth cutting off, but your perception of which relationships these may be may not necessarily become clear until the afterwards. Keeping the banishment sigil on hand during this time may be helpful, but bear in mind that life seems to have a natural ebb and flow that is always seeking to balance itself.

The ideal conditions for utilizing Venus energy are on a Friday morning or Monday night at the Hour of Venus during a fresh, breezy day when Venus is in Taurus. During this period, it is important to avoid starting any new projects or undertakings, as progress or success may be slowed or halted entirely. This time is best spent instead reflecting on priorities or reevaluating your workflow for improvements upon returning to it. Keeping the banishment sigil on hand during this time may be helpful, but bear in mind that life seems to have a natural ebb and flow that is always seeking to balance itself.

The ideal conditions for utilizing Mars energy are on a Tuesday morning or Friday night at the Hour of Mars during a powerful storm when Mars is in Aries. Mars energy is dominant in plants that are prickly or spicy, have a peppery fragrance, affect the muscular system, or work on the gall bladder.

The Fire of Jupiter carries energies which deal with transmutation, manifestation, and physical abundance, while the Water of Jupiter carries energies which deal with cosmic matters, spiritual expansion, and optimism. Jupiter magick is best used for bringing about tremendous material success, achieving balance through righteous justice, ensuring good health and nourishment, fueling ambition and motivation, and connecting with the divine.

When in retrograde, the influence of Jupiter can turn us entirely inward as outward expansion slows. During this period, it is important to evaluate where we are in life, what our beliefs our, and whether these things are consistent and aligned. This time is best spent ensuring that we really know ourselves and know what we stand for and believe in and that the actions we are currently taking match up to this. Keeping the banishment sigil on hand during this time may be helpful, but bear in mind that life seems to have a natural ebb and flow that is always seeking to balance itself.

The celestial body that we call Saturn (from Latin Saturnus), is one of the seven classical planets which is associated with limitations, restrictions, and harvest. In alchemy, it is associated with the metal lead and the spleen. In astrology, it can reveal information about our sense of discipline, our physical, mental, and spiritual limitations, and our sense of brutal realism. The Earth of Saturn carries energies which deal with organization, work ethic, and the structure of time, while the Air of Saturn carries energies which deal with matters of authority, astrology's influence on our lives, and the passage of time. Saturn magick is best used for breaking hexes and bad habits, works involving binding or restricting, bringing forth brutal truth and honesty, justice through punishment, solidifying the effects of contractual obligations, working with the shadow self for protection, and bringing about stability.

When in retrograde, the influence of Saturn can be something of a celestial reality check, bringing forth the consequences of events or circumstances we may have been ignoring or neglecting to address. During this period, it is important to be brutally honest with ourselves. This time is best spent taking responsibility for our practical duties, picking up the pace where we have fallen off, and returning to old plans and promises which have yet to be fulfilled. Keeping the banishment sigil on hand during this time may be helpful, but bear in mind that life seems to have a natural ebb and flow that is always seeking to balance itself.

The ideal conditions for utilizing Saturn energy are on a Saturday morning or Tuesday night at the Hour of Saturn during an overcast day when Saturn is in Capricorn. Saturn energy is dominant in plants that are cold and dry, grow in shade or crevices, have deep-growing roots, have deliriant or hypnotic properties, or work on the spleen.

The celestial body that we call Uranus (from Greek Ouranos), is one of the three modern planets which is associated with liberation, radical change, and novelty invention. As it is a planet that has been discovered in modern times, it has no classical alchemical associations, but it may perhaps be likened to combination of the energies of Mercury and Sol. In astrology, it can reveal information about our sense of original identity, our desire for rebellion, and our lust for discovery. The Air of Uranus carries energies which deal with practical yet novelty invention, chaotic freedom, and violent upheaval of norms, while the Water of Uranus carries energies which deal with socially beneficial radical change, experimental and avant-garde methods of expression, and infinite potential. Uranus magick is best used for discovering our true selves without judgment, stirring up novelty ideas, bringing about an energy of rebellion and revolution, bringing about sudden and radical change, breaking up and banishing stagnant and oppressive energy, and bringing to light the misdeeds of authority figures.

When in retrograde, the influence of Uranus can enhance our sense of rebellion in ways which can make us restless and impatient. During this period, it is important to be thoughtful when making changes in life but to avoid stagnation. This time is best spent connecting with those of like mind who wish to bring about positive change within the world and analyzing your own place in it all. Keeping the banishment sigil on hand during this time may be helpful, but bear in mind that life seems to have a natural ebb and flow that is always seeking to balance itself.

If you choose to work solely with the classical planets, any correspondences I associate with Uranus energy (such as plants, minerals, or animals) may be associated instead with a blend of Mercury/Sol energy. With this in mind, the ideal conditions for utilizing Uranus energy are on a Wednesday morning or Saturday night at the Hour of Sol during a windy lightning storm when Uranus is in Aquarius. Uranus energy is dominant in plants that are rare or unusual in appearance, shock or excite the nervous system, have a purging or paralyzing effect, or are genetically engineered.
♆ Neptune ♆

The celestial body that we call Neptune (from Latin Neptunus), is one of the three modern planets which is associated with escapism, romanticism, and utopia. As it is a planet that has been discovered in modern times, it has no classical alchemical associations, but it may perhaps be likened to combination of the energies of Luna and Venus. In astrology, it can reveal information about our inner worlds, our distorted perceptions, and the nature of our potential spiritual awakening. The Water of Neptune carries energies which deal with utopian ideals, peace cradled by manufactured comfort, and heavy romanticism of the world around us, while the Air of Neptune carries energies which deal with vampirism, manufactured perceptual changes, and traveling across realms through the subconscious. Neptune magick is best used for crafting art of fiction or of the imagination, stirring up feelings of everyday romanticism, striving towards the ideal self and ideal life, influencing the perceptions of the self and others, opening up our perception of other worlds, achieving lucidity in dreams, and enhancing physical sensations.

When in retrograde, the influence of Neptune can heighten spiritual sensitivity but weaken discernment. During this period, it is important to keep ourselves grounded in the physical and to be honest with ourselves about how beneficial certain circumstances or endeavors may be. This time is best spent working on spirituality and keeping note of our experiences to review with a clearer mind after the retrograde passes; this is especially true of experiences had while in the realms of our dreams. Keeping the banishment sigil on hand during this time may be helpful, but bear in mind that life seems to have a natural ebb and flow that is always seeking to balance itself.

If you choose to work solely with the classical planets, any correspondences I associate with Neptune energy (such as plants, minerals, or animals) may be associated instead with a blend of Luna/Venus energy. With this in mind, the ideal conditions for utilizing Neptune energy are on a Monday morning or Thursday night at the Hour of Venus during a refreshing rainstorm when Neptune is in Pisces. Neptune energy is dominant in plants that are soft and intoxicating, grow in or near the sea, or are heavily hallucinogenic.
♇ Pluto ♇
Aspect: Earth, Fire | Gender: Neutral & Balanced | Colors: Brown, Black, White | Theos: Unknown | Ruler: Haides

The celestial body that we call Pluto (from Greek Plouton), is one of the three modern planets which is associated with cycles of transformation, matters of the occult, and matters of the physical incarnation. As it is a planet that has been discovered in modern times, it has no classical alchemical associations, but it may perhaps be likened to combination of the energies of Saturn and Mars. In astrology, it can reveal information about our journey of metamorphosis, our view of change, and the nature of our shadow self. The Earth of Pluto carries energies which deal with the finality of death, the realm of the afterlife, and the creation of generation wealth or debt, while the Fire of Pluto carries energies which deal with the potential of rebirth, bringing secrets to light, and radical subconscious transformation. Pluto magick is best used for connecting with past lives or other incarnations, exploring the shadow self in its entirety, uncovering or discovering secrets, making changes that will impact future generations of the family, initiating honest and radical spiritual awakening, and working through self-destructive thoughts or habits.

When in retrograde, the influence of Pluto can force us to face our fears, anxieties, and apprehensions. During this period, it is important to be more flexible than usual, face things head on, and accept things about us that we do not like. This time is best spent doing shadow work if we are feeling emotionally ready for the transformation it will bring. Keeping the banishment sigil on hand during this time may be helpful, but bear in mind that life seems to have a natural ebb and flow that is always seeking to balance itself.

If you choose to work solely with the classical planets, any correspondences I associate with Pluto energy (such as plants, minerals, or animals) may be associated instead with a blend of Saturn/Mars energy. With this in mind, the ideal conditions for utilizing Pluto energy are on a Saturday morning or Tuesday night at the Hour of Mars during an overcast day when Pluto is in Scorpio. Pluto energy is dominant in plants that have strong but hidden qualities, die off in the winter and emerge again in spring, or are highly poisonous.
The Planetary Hours
To calculate planetary hours, find out the sunrise and sunset times for your particular location.
Calculate the total amount of time between sunrise and sunset in minutes by subtracting sunrise time from sunset time.
Divine the total time by 12 to get the length of each planetary hour in minutes. Round if necessary.
Assign the planetary hours according to the Chaldean order of the planets: Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Sol, Venus, Mercury, and Luna.
The cycle repeats after the seventh hour. Planetary hours after sunset may be calculated the same way but continuing the pattern.
Below is a convenient chart to illustrate the planetary rulers throughout the week:
